Scrap Initiation.  It means nothing.  If you want this to represent
"Lore-like knowledge" then make it a point of Lore required to be a
spellcaster. Otherwise don't replace Read Magic with anything, it doesn't
need it.  Right now to be a first level caster costs 4 points for no
reason, so:

1) Remove Initiation

Then either:

a) Replace Initiation with Lore

b) Reinstate Read Magic (and encourage use of Magical scrolls, words, etc.
in games since Literacy is now the standard)

OR

c) [Depending if Hans' zero-point weapons proposal passes] Give 1 weapons
point instead.  This will enable clerics who would otherwise have no
weapons the use of a zero-point cored weapon in their defense without
taxing their available points for spell use especially at lower levels.

   The oog reasoning for this, besides Tim's observation that in the time,
everyone has a knife for eating (and hopefully one for basic protection)  
is that many magicians, herbalists, healers, etc. had a blade to use for
ritual or the cutting of plants.  That this could also afford some minimal
protection is an alternate consideration.
