== A Proposal to Change the Magic Bandage Spell == by Angela Pellegrino The Current Text: "This spell causes a specified piece of cloth to become a magic bandage. A magic bandage, while placed on a wounded limb, will in effect "heal" that limb, stopping its bleeding and allowing it to be used normally. However, the limb is not actually healed, and removing the bandage will cause any bleeding, unconsciousness, and/or loss of function to resume. This spell effect wears off in 48 hours or when directly dispelled. If a bandaged limb is wounded again, the magic bandage must be removed and reapplied to have any effect. Although a magic bandage may be used on different wounded limbs, it will only affect the one limb it is presently wrapped around. (Material component: a strip of white cloth)" The Problem: This is a Seventh Level spell that causes a *temporary* effect identical to the *permanent* effect caused by Heal Limb, a Second Level spell. Why would any cleric ever use this? The Solution: Make this worth using, by both lowering the level and increasing its effectiveness. My suggestion is to lower this spell to Second Level, and have it affect "any one wound" on a limb or torso. Then lower the effectiveness to five minutes, so that it's still less powerful than Knit Torso (at Third Level). The basic idea is that this spell can keep your fighters going when most of the healers on hand are low on spell points, but it's not a permanent solution. This also addresses the problem that Second Level Cleric pretty much sucks right now, in that you spend three spell points to get three useful but boring spells. The Proposal: Change the above spell to this: Magic Bandage (2nd, TN) "This spell causes a specified piece of cloth to become a magic bandage. A magic bandage, when placed on any one wound anywhere on the body, will in effect "heal" that wound, stopping its bleeding and allowing normal use. However, the wound is not actually healed, and removing the bandage will cause any bleeding, unconsciousness, and/or loss of function to resume. This spell effect wears off in five minutes or when directly dispelled. The bandage will not affect any wounds incurred after its application. (Material component: a strip of white cloth)"
